From Dark Rooms to Drone Shots: A Journey into Corporate Photography

My photographic journey commenced at the age of 12 when I joined my school’s Saturday morning photography club, armed with an SLR camera and a roll of film. In those pre-digital camera days, the dark room became a sanctuary where the magic of image development unfolded before my eyes, solidifying my love for photography.

Fast forward a decade, and I found myself facing a new challenge – my inaugural solo wedding photography gig. Entrusted by a colleague to capture their special day in the local registry office in Oakham, Rutland, I navigated the responsibilities with nervous precision, ensuring no feet or heads were inadvertently cut off, and everyone’s eyes remained open. The success of this venture marked a turning point, making it one of the most memorable weddings in my growing portfolio.

Despite this success in wedding photography, my professional journey initially led me to Graphic Design. Over a decade of self-employment in this field, I felt a calling to integrate photography into my design business, particularly focusing on branding, products, and corporate events. The response was remarkable, and photography quickly evolved from a supplementary service to a core aspect of my business.

The transition towards specialising in photography gained momentum when I assisted a seasoned photographer friend at several events. Her feedback and encouragement to pursue solo photography caught me off guard, considering her extensive experience in the industry. After thoughtful discussions with my creatively inclined and gadget-savvy husband, Gareth, we decided to turn our passion into a family business, with a focus on corporate photography.

In 2022, we officially launched our corporate photography venture, with me taking the lead as the primary photographer and Gareth contributing as the second photographer and drone pilot. His expertise in drone videography and aerial photography added a unique dimension to our services. The positive response was immediate, with our first booking propelling us forward.

As the summer of 2022 draws to a close, we eagerly anticipate the coming year, poised to expand our corporate photography business, foster stronger supplier relationships, and grow our client base. Our journey from dark rooms to drone shots has been an exciting evolution, and we look forward to the opportunities and challenges that the future holds for our corporate photography venture.
